On Wednesday September 22, 2010 students around the country will gather around flag poles at elementary, middle, high schools and college campuses. What for you may ask? These students are gathering together to pray. Pray for their schools, their families, and their country. The event, “See You At The Pole”, has been taking place for 20 years, ever since a youth minister in Texas challenged students to meet together to pray for the school year. Now it is a phenomenon.
This years theme is “Reveal” and the scripture used is Matthew 6:9-13:
“This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”
I doubt there will be much press coverage of these events, but the there wasn’t much press coverage when King David prayed to God, there wasn’t much press coverage when Jeremiah cried out in Lamentations. Why should anything change? God is not looking for a stage or platform, he is looking for changed hearts that are broken over their sins, and want to do the will of God as ambassadors of Christ. There is no doubt that a constant theme throughout most of the prayers will be for our country to wake up and turn back to their Creator, Savior, and Lord! What a blessing. I thank God for working through this movement and for everyone who participates.
