Both Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Michelle Bauchmann (R-MN) delivered televised responses to President Obama’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday night. The SOTU, filled with talk of investing and spending cuts, was described by many as dry, bland and of little substance. In my opinion, Americans did not hear the actual state of the United States of America, until the responses given by Congressmen Ryan and Bauchmann.
Congressman Paul Ryan responded first, with a statement filled with actual solutions, facts of what America is facing and ways to work through the problems ahead. During his response, Ryan stated:
…I’d like to share with you the principles that guide us. They are anchored in the wisdom of the founders; in the spirit of the Declaration of Independence; and in the words of the American Constitution.
They have to do with the importance of limited government; and with the blessing of self-government.
The concept of limited and self-government as a blessing is one many on the left don’t understand, both those on the right have been waiting to hear from a politician for quite some time.
Representative Bachmann’s response was given on behalf on Tea Party Express, and aired solely on CNN. There has been some backlash on Rep. Bachmann looking into the online feed camera vs the network camera. Regardless, her message was a good one and well delivered.
