Abortion has been used by politicians as a wedge issue, supported by self-proclaimed civil rights leaders, and pushed as “family planning.” These myths and contradictions are intellectually dishonest and confuse the debate regarding the abortion of life. The following arguments for abortion are real and have been communicated at one point or another in conversation with friends and acquaintances. The myths in this post are real; they have been stated by real people. The names have been removed to protect the ignorant.
Before addressing myths, let’s set the record straight, abortion is absolutely a civil rights, a human rights issue. The Declaration of Independence cites the rights as given by our Creator as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Abortion is a violation of the first right; life. Abortion grew to prominence in the early 1900s with the Women’s’ Liberation movement and Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger. Sanger, who considered the purpose of birth control, “to create a race of thoroughbreds” is a classic example of the early 20th century’s push for Eugenics.
“Birth control must lead ultimately to a cleaner race.” – Margaret Sanger April 1933 Birth Control Review
For those who aren’t Star Trek geeks, Eugenics is the concept of a superior being and using breeding to remove undesirable traits or deformities. While many state that Sanger was attempting to address overcrowding of families, abandoned children, and poor child conditions most of our generation, or the last, haven’t studied Ms. Sanger’s actions and words on abortion or her motivations; the growing eugenics movement. Eugenics was also at the heart of the Aryan race concept in Nazi Germany. Thought out objectively, if it’s acceptable to eliminate life, or to qualify something as not a human at all, something the Nazis did successfully to the Jewish people, how is anyone’s right to life safe? History shows that when one majority chooses to violate the inalienable rights of a minority, no one’s rights can be defended.
“We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population,” she said, “if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.”
Myth 1: “The woman is the only one who deals with the consequences of an abortion.”
While this is true in a direct way, the realities are that society as a whole suffers from abortion policy. In China, the age gap caused by their one-child per family policy is now being fully realized as the aging population dies off and the shortage of children will cause the manpower rate to plummet. Abortion advocates cite this gap as a result of the desire for male children, which still doesn’t help the manpower situation and is shown to be false because of similar data in Europe. Data from Europe shows a declining population and birth rate as well, one of the reasons for their embrace of North African and Middle Eastern Arabs. Neither regions are thriving as China is on the verge of learning what happens when you mess with the natural order, Europe will follow shortly after. Abortion whether accepted by the people or pushed by the government is wrong, but that’s beside the point of this myth. The woman is not only the one who suffers from the consequences; society does as well, individually and as a whole.
Myth 2: You’re for limited government, why should you be for government getting involved?
As stated above, even libertarians believe that government has a purpose, to do the things individuals are unable to do for themselves. Limited government is not big government and government as designed by our founding documents should provide national defense, and equal justice for all. To isolate one group and refuse to protect their civil liberties sets a dangerous precedent, and is just plain wrong. Divide and Conquer is older than Julius Ceasar. It’s how you kill 11 million people, by lying to them. Governments who promote death, or the devaluing of life are a danger to all, because one day they will come for you, and should you remain silent, there will be no one left to stand up for you.
Myth 3: If the Government outlaws abortions, then people will just go underground like with Prohibition.
Consider the differences between what is being discussed, “People are just going to do it anyway so we should keep it legal.” Oh, so if a majority of society says that it’s ok to terminate innocent life, we should legalize it? By this logic since people choose to kill others, or hire someone to kill another, we should accept that and just make it legal? After all, where is the line drawn? We are given the right to life by our Creator, how should anyone be allowed, to take that? Perhaps our nonchalance on abortion says something about our society and its morals?
Contradiction: The LBGT, Jewish, and Liberal Communities are Pro-Choice.
If the LGBT community is correct and they are “born this way” then it’s very curious that they would be vocal proponents of abortion. Yet, the alternative lifestyle community is just that, very pro-abortion, considering abortion a “blessing”. Perhaps our public school system is letting them down again, but homosexuals were considered undesirables right along with “intellectuals,” Jews and Gypsies by the National Socialists. Have we forgotten this quickly? Perhaps those who are concerned with their “rights” to something like marriage should be concerned for a more basic right, that of life.
We must defend and protect the sanctity of life. It is the very essence of what it means to be American. We must stand for the innocent and those without a voice, for if we do not, then how much worth is our own life?
